Reading Key:
Foreword (The first year of IMPAKT and a note on the transition from Revue)
Foreword
In early December, Revue by Twitter “made the difficult decision to shut down”. On 18 January 2023 Revue will officially close and purge all data. It saddens me that Twitter, a proponent of free-speech is willing to pull the plug on their blogging platform without providing a satisfactory archive. As a result, IMPAKT will now have a home on Substack.
Volume: XII marks the first year of IMPAKT. A beautiful journey which provides the unique opportunity to feature interviews from some of the most intellectual and creative minds in the NFT art space.
This Volume is dedicated to all who have taken the time to share.
Volume: IV | Featuring Ash Chapter Two NFT Artist, David Ariew and Pak’s Merge Season 1
Volume: VI | Featuring Hacker & Crypto Artist Interview with Nahiko
Volume: VII | Interview with Teej_0_o - Creator of ASH Wednesdays
Volume: VIII | Interview with Y4Si - NFT Creator and Founder of ASH Nation
Interview with JC of NFT Siblings
What does community mean to you?
Short answer is that community itself is a blank canvas & vessel that holds opportunity for unified values.
Think about the communities you are in, then carefully analyze what you consider community.
Is it an artist’s discord? Siblings? Rooting for a football team?
The most common type of community is a group of people who are interested in or supporters of something, such as a nation or artist.
Yet when we talk about the supporters of a football team, we refer to them as “fans” and usually not “community”. Why is that?
What is the difference between fans and community?
If BAYC only had fans, would it have been as successful today?
On the other hand, the pop-star The Weeknd technically just needed lot of fans to be successful.
So again, what is the difference between fans and community?
I think while fans or anti-fans means a group of strong liking or hate towards something. Community is the blank opportunity for people to come together and create its own meaning. The communities we often see are the result of people coming together and building its value. Such as the python dev community on reddit, famous for its helpfulness and sharing of knowledge. Or the Wall Street Bets community, infamous/famous for the meme-moves that they make together. Or the BAYC community, a result of thousands of early community members saying it is valuable and doing their part to contribute value to it.
In the same way, I learn every time I look at Siblings community and realize- Siblings is built by people’s pure love for NFTs & Web3- and wanting to be a force of good in the space. To be someone who is part of a permanent OG community in the space and to make that OG community they are a part of better.
Community is powerful as it gives purpose, a group of people coming together to share their knowledge of the space, learn, and of course enjoy time with each other. I have met and made friends with many wonderful people, and I hope others have found that within Siblings.
And I will close this question with the dearest hope that you have found your community. If not, then look no further than Siblings!
When were Siblings founded?
This is hard to say as it started off as a free education channel (still is) to share knowledge from our digital asset trading and past digital asset business experiences. This is something we have been doing for years (since 2014). To me, “Siblings being founded” means “when did it become an official community?”, and truthfully it would be hard to define the beginning, since from what scale of members is it considered an official community? Does a private group chat count? However, we made a choice to set our public anniversary at the first few months of 2021 as we feel that was when it started to feel most like a community, a time when we started to cover Nifty Gateway drops. From then on we established ourselves as OGs and began pioneering NFT investor and collector education.
In what ways have NFT Siblings accomplished their mission statement?
Our goals at Siblings are constantly growing so there is no point where they are complete.
However, our goal is to be the constant factor through all markets, whether bull or bear we will be here. It is not gated by a token, we are a family united by their love of NFTs and being a good impact in the web3 space.
There is a huge problem in the NFT space right now, where, for example, if you have a NFT and you dedicate your whole social life to this gated community* and it goes up to $10M and you have to sell it, you are also having to choose to let go of your social life there. That does not feel like the community that is right for Web3.
Like family, Siblings will be the constant in the world of new new new, and the community that is just for love of NFTs, not because of a NFT.
To have a community for builders, OGs, long term investors, true believers of the space, and future creators.
There are a lot of Sib success stories where they were able to take their NFT trading to the next level during the bull market after making their initial steps in our community. We’ve always focused on teaching our Sibs good investment practices and also how to think for themselves when it comes to investing, I hope the knowledge that sibs learn here puts them in good stead for success.
I also want to close this question with a shout out to those who make the Sibs discord possible. Not only is it a good source of knowledge of Web3 but also staying true to our mission to cover important topics such as mental health and macro-economics. This wouldn’t be possible without the special members in our community. Special shout out to Quare for his mental health resources and tips and Kaboyashi for his macro-analysis of the global economy, would love to list more, but you know who you are!
How do you build community in a bear market?
The same way you build in any market. Depends on what kind of community you want to create, but never hurts to showcase your passion and be a good person!
What inspired PAK KOREA?
The Asian market at the time was still very new to NFTs and to an extent it still is today. Pak’s work felt like an appropriate showcase of digital art and early-for-its-time ideas to collectors and NFT enthusiasts in Korea. Similar to traditional art, patrons are vital to the growth of artists, and as always Siblings is keen to support more creators in the NFT space.
